                                          Stem Cell Therapy

Stem cells are naturally occurring cells in the body that are capable of dividing and differentiating into diverse specialized cell types and can self renew to produce more stem cells.  What this means is that when stem cells are collected and activated, they can be placed into an affected area, such as an arthritic joint, allowing them to regenerate and grow into healthy tissue.  The result is a diseased area becoming more stout and strong thanks to the new cellular growth.

Stem cell therapy is a drug free treatment for dogs, cats, horses, and other animals suffering from osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia, ligament and cartilage injuries and other degenerative diseases.  In this treatment, only stem cells from the animals own body are used.  They are derived from the adipose (fat) tissue.  No embryonic stem cells are used.

During the one day, out-patient procedure, adipose (fat) tissue will be surgically removed from the animal, the stem cells will then be separated, isolated, activated, and injected back into the affected areas.  Everything is done right here in the clinic.  This means that your pet would start its day off with some bloodwork and later be sedated to collect the fat tissue from under the skin.  Afterwards, while your pet is resting, the fat tissue is put through several enzymatic processes over the course of several hours.  At the end of this process, the stem cells will have been isolated.  Then the animal is given a mild sedative and the stem cells are injected into the affected areas/joints after the skin has been shaved and cleansed.
You will take your pet home the same afternoon.

Within two to three weeks, most animals that have been in severe pain with a restricted range of motion are able to walk, run, and jump again.  They are no longer in need of prescription anti-inflammatories and pain medications. Depending on the severity of the condition, this treatment may last a lifetime.

If you choose, you can have stem cells cryogenically stored so that they are easily available in the future.
